Occupying a 25 acre site the building provides 495,000 sq ft of distribution space at 15m to haunch height. The facility was the largest warehouse unit built speculatively in the UK.
The barrel vault roof over four spans contains 64 dock levellers and additional level access doors, and makes use of both composite panel and built up cladding systems on its elevations. The building provides 2 storey office accommodation.
Extensive earthworks have employed stabilisation techniques for ground improvement.
Following consultation with the concrete society the building was used as a best practice example in a presentation for the launch of the new TR34 document - a guide to design and construction of concrete industrial ground floors.
The project was acclaimed winner of the IAS Awards - Best Speculative Building.
