Sustainable ConstructionRenewable Energy

Understanding government requirements for renewable energy, we employ proactive design principles to ensure these needs are met. Our care home project at Bulwell achieved the local authority's 10% renewable energy requirement using an air sourced heat exchanger, sun pipes and rainwater harvesting. We have been involved in projects where the following renewable energy sources have been used:

  • Wood chip burners providing 100% of the heating load for water and air systems
  • Ground source and air source heat exchangers linking to under-floor heating and general water heating systems
  • Wind turbines supplementing electrical requirements
  • Combined heat and power (CHP) Systems
  • North Lights: 13% carbon reduction by increasing natural daylight
  • Minimised air leakage: 15% carbon reduction by reducing air leakage to 3m3/hr/m2 at 50 Pa.
  • Prefabrication: By manufacturing construction items off-site, waste is reduced and results in a higher standard of construction
  • Reduction in embodied energy by 30% a year
