On the 28th October 2011, The EMCBE hosted its fourth Annual East Midlands Constructing Excellence Awards at Whittlebury Hall in Northampton.
The evening celebrated excellence within the sector in the East Midlands and the iCon Building, Daventry which Winvic Build constructed under a design and build contract was up for two awards, winning the Environmental Sustainability Project of the Year and joint runner up in the Project of the Year.
The iCon is a beacon for environmental innovation in the UK and beyond. Specialising in green technologies and sustainable construction, it offers a high profile and supportive environment for firms at the forefront of the low carbon economy. The building includes 55 incubation units for start-up businesses, a conference centre, exhibition space and a café.
The judges said of the iCon:
"This project stood head and shoulder’s above the rest, based on its approach from consultation, inception, throughout the design, construction and now use. The very low energy building in use was achieved by getting the building fabric right rather than relying on renewables but using appropriate technologies. A number of other features such as the use of living timber, JCT contract with sustainability advice and the educational and economic benefits by way of jobs and business."
