New developments often cause divided opinions and some inconvenience, at Winvic we always aim to reduce the impact of our work on the local community by following the codes of practice set out in the Considerate Constructors Scheme. As a result of our approach, the site team at East Midlands Gateway have been able to form good relations with the local councillors and residents in the neighbouring Hemington village.
In the last year, the Leicestershire village has had to put up with a lot of fly tipping taking place in a ravine just of the outside of the boundary of the East Midlands Gateway site, so the site team wanting to give back to the community of Hemington village offered to give it a good clear out.
On 11th April 2018, a team of six individuals using two excavators and a tipper lorry from the nearby Winvic site spent over 10 hours removing sofas, fridges, car parts, horse’s saddles and building materials from the ravine. The total amount of rubbish removed from the ravine was estimated at around 40 tonnes.
Having restored the ravine it to its former beauty and allowing the stream to flow freely again, the team were also able to salvage a number of wooden logs during the process which were donated to the village to use as firewood.
