Winvic Supports National Bring Your Child to Work Day

Posted on April 26, 2018 in Careers and employment

Following the success of national ‘Bring Your Child to Work Day’, Winvic is proud to support this initiative which has been gaining momentum across Britain since 2013.

Amber Furie Severn who enjoys spending time in the stables tending to horses when not at Southfield School, has spent the day at Winvic learning what her father Graham Furie does as a Pre-Construction Manager. Amber got the chance to shadow her father Graham in the office at Moulton Park, Northampton and then out on site at Phase 2 of the Rushden Lakes retail and leisure scheme currently under construction.

Amber said “It was really fun to see my Dad’s work. Some of the yellow machines were very big and scary”.

The concept of “Bring Your Child to Work Day” is to give 8-16-year olds the opportunity to grasp a better understanding of the working environment and what it means to go to work. Mr Richard Goswell, Key Stage 3 Progress Leader at Southfield School stated “The aim of the day visit is to raise our student’s awareness, and give them a valuable experience, of the world of work.”

Winvic was delighted that Amber chose to spend the day with her father, “as we believe ‘Bring Your Child to Work Day’ will open doors and broaden knowledge of potential careers in the construction sector, as often children will go back to school to share their experiences in the classroom with their fellow pupils. It is also a great opportunity to promote roles for ‘Women in Construction’ says Winvic HR & Training Manager, Rebecca Schwarz.

As a father Graham thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Amber, “Thank you Winvic for allowing me to bring Amber to work, so that she can experience what we do!” It is hoped that national “Bring Your Child to Work Day” will continue to gain momentum in 2019.
