Winvic and Mountpark provide new facilities to encourage outdoor play

Posted on August 28, 2018 in Community engagement

Environmental factors are always considered during the build and construction of a new development, local habitats are preserved, protected and maintained. But what about the consideration of our own habitats and outdoor spaces especially for children in an age where technology keeps us close to screens.

In Swaythling, Southampton where Winvic is constructing four distribution warehouses for client Mountpark Logistics, such consideration was given to a local football pitch and basketball court which had been neglected over the years and was no longer safe or fit for purpose.

Winvic’s Richard Holmes, Project Manager on the Wide Lane Southampton project said; “As a Partner of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, Winvic takes every opportunity to raise the image of the construction industry and focusing on providing a safe space for children’s outdoor play, really puts the spotlight on … the next generation.”

Winvic worked with Mountpark to re-level the football pitch and create a new basketball court for the local community with materials donated from their supply chain, the project cost £10,000 to complete.

The unveiling of the refurbished Octavia Park to the public, took place on 8th August and was opened by Bob Painton, who used to be the Swaythling Councillor.

Wal Groves from developer Mountpark said “We wanted to ensure that kids and families had a good space where they could get some fresh air. Bob’s efforts to ensure this project happened is commendable.”

Bob Painton stated “The development of this park won’t stop after today. I’m hoping that lots of clubs will use this space to their benefit. I can’t thank all of the contractors enough for their hard work.”

Florin Garbou, Winvic’s Site Manager on the Wide Lane Southampton project said: “I’ve really enjoyed working with the team on the re-levelling of the football pitch as I think it’s really important to give back to the local community. The final result is fantastic.”
