One Gold, Two Silver and One Bronze Industrial Project Honours

Winvic Construction Ltd, a leading main contractor specialising in turnkey solutions for industrial, build-to-rent, student accommodation and commercial projects, has been recognised at the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) National Site Awards by winning an esteemed gold honour, along with two silvers and one bronze.

Four modern industrial warehouse schemes – DPD Optimus Point in Leicester, Decathlon in Northampton, Prologis DC2 in Kettering and the second phase of Mountpark Southampton – have been acclaimed as top-performing CCS registered sites. Sites are scored on five areas of considerate practice: care about appearance, respect the community, protect the environment, secure everyone’s safety and value their workforce.

Mountpark Southampton – Gold Award

Following the successful completion of the first phase of Mountpark Logistics’ industrial / logistics development at Wide Lane, Southampton, Winvic Construction were appointed to deliver the second phase comprising the construction of four high specification BREEAM Excellent distribution warehouses totalling 341,000 sq ft.

Prologis DC2, Kettering – Silver Award

Winvic’s working relationship with Prologis continued in 2018 with one scheme comprising the construction of a 7,000 sq ft vehicle maintenance unit (VMU) and a 4,300 sq ft battery charge unit (BCU). This project was an adjunct to an existing warehouse previously constructed by Winvic 10 years ago and also included civils work to create 10,800 sq ft of external yard space.

DPD, Optimus Point, Leicester – Silver Award

Winvic was appointed by Wilson Bowden Developments to construct a 60,000 sq ft bespoke single storey logistics and distribution warehouse for occupier DPD. The BREEAM Very Good scheme included 9,000 sq ft office over two-storeys. This is the seventh facility Winvic has constructed at Optimus Point and the second unit to win a Silver CCS honour.

Decathlon, Northampton – Bronze Award

A BREEAM Very Good single storey warehouse and production unit, together with two storey office accommodation constructed on a turnkey service meaning the project also comprised, civils, infrastructure and fit-out works. The structural steel multi-span portal frame on this Roxhill/Segro project spans a total of 257,000 sq ft, and preparation works for a future warehouse extension were also completed by Winvic.

Ian Goodhead, Winvic’s Director of HSEQ, said: “We work very hard to manage sites safely and undertake all elements of a project in a considerate way, so such recognition by the Considerate Constructors Scheme – year after year – makes us very proud. From making a difference to lives in the communities we work in and ensuring the welfare of site operatives to caring for the environment and the appearance of our sites, it’s a team effort based on shared values. And with our best in construction win at the Health and Safety Excellence Awards in the same week, it appears that working ‘the Winvic way’ really does reap rewards.”

Edward Hardy, Chief Executive of the Considerate Constructors Scheme added: “Congratulations to Winvic on winning these awards. Achieving a gold, two silvers and a bronze award at this year’s National Site Awards is testament to the hard work and dedication of Winvic’s site teams to continue to want to achieve the highest standards of considerate construction. It is clear their efforts have made a real difference to improving the image of construction throughout the local communities around these sites, and we look forward to seeing how Winvic can achieve even higher standards next year and further in to the future.”
