Winvic and IM Properties Open Up Construction Job Opportunities at Recruitment Fair

Posted on November 12, 2021 in Careers and employment

A recruitment fair is being held on Thursday, November 18 from 10am to 1pm at Mercia Park, home to Jaguar Land Rover’s new Global Logistics Centre, to profile the wide range of construction sector employment and training opportunities currently available to local people.

Located off Junction 11 of the M42 and the A444 near Swadlincote, Mercia Park’s multidisciplinary main contractor Winvic Construction Ltd, in partnership with developer IM Properties, has organised the fair. They will be joined by Collins Earthworks, Van Elle, G&A Fire Protection, Whiting Landscape, Stanford Flooring, Fortel, Construction Skills Hub and more.

All local people over the age of 18 who are interested can book their place to ensure a COVID safe event by emailing mercia.park@yourtrainnghub.co.uk.

It is being held on site in Mercia Park’s ‘Future of Construction’ Training Centre and Sustainability & Innovation Hub. Experienced team members from all the attending organisations will be available to talk through on-site career opportunities open to young people as well as the pathways and qualifications required for different roles.

The new Future of Construction Training Centre and Sustainability and Innovation Hub were launched as training and operational facilities for Winvic, its supply chain and third-party training providers to inspire and upskill young people. This is achieved through vocational training, educational visits, the showcasing of Mercia Park’s sustainability credentials – which is aiming for Net Zero in Construction – and digital advancements.

The first seven learners welcomed on a four-week vocational traffic management course all went on to be offered employment with traffic management contractors, with one of the job roles offered – a trainee operative position accepted by Anthony Land – with one of Winvic’s subcontractors at Mercia Park.

Both Winvic and IM Properties are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of local people surrounding the scheme. This includes an extensive social value programme, donating time and resources to help local charities and community groups as well as the launch of a £350,000 Community Fund by IM Properties.

Heidi Salmons, from Winvic’s social value leadership team, said: “Winvic and IM Properties partnership is exciting because our joint commitment to making a difference in the community leads us to exploring new ideas like this on-site recruitment fair. We’re opening our doors at Mercia Park, where the impressive Jaguar Land Rover facility is under construction and showing local people who are looking for an opportunity to train for a new career what construction is all about. And there are places available right now for people to apply for. People should email with any enquiries and to book their place between 10am and 1pm. They can ask questions of our experienced staff and trainees and we hope they are inspired by one of the many different construction careers there are on offer.”

David Smith, planning director at IM Properties, said: “We’ve worked hard in partnership with Winvic to innovate and create real opportunities for local people at Mercia Park. We’ve already seen the tangible benefits of people entering onto training and gaining employment and we would urge anyone interested in a career in construction to come and see the facilities we’ve invested in and have their eyes opened to a wide range of possibilities available to them.”

Anyone who can’t attend the recruitment fair but is interested in the training and employment opportunities available, should contact mercia.park@yourtraininghub.co.uk.

Winvic delivered vast civils and infrastructure works to facilitate the 238-acre employment park and is currently constructing the global logistics centre for Jaguar Land Rover. It has also just handed over a 550,000 sq ft facility comprising a modern warehouse, cross-dock and offices for global transport and logistics company DSV.
